The short version
Calls are never recorded
Mood-match conversations are audio-only, with no transcript and no history — nowhere.
Match chats stay on your device
Text sent during a match travels peer-to-peer and is stored only in your own browser. We never receive it.
Your data is never sold
We collect the minimum needed to run the service, and we never sell any of it.
What we collect
| Data | Purpose | Stored where |
|---|---|---|
| Name, email, profile photo | Sign-in and your team's directory | Firebase / your organisation's backend |
| Authentication token | Keep you signed in | Your device (local storage) |
| Contacts you add | Show your contact list | Firebase / backend |
| Presence (online / away) | Show who's available | Firebase / backend |
| Persistent 1:1 chat messages (contact chats only) | Deliver messages and show history | Firebase |
| Anonymous match metrics (prompt key + timestamp) | Product analytics & billing | Backend |
What we deliberately do not collect
- Audio or video from any call — calls run through Jitsi and are not recorded by FireChat.
- Mood-match text chat content — it travels directly between the two participants over WebRTC and lives only in each person's browser.
- Browsing history, location, health, or financial data.
Third-party services
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, and real-time signaling. See Google's privacy policy.
- Jitsi Meet — audio and video calls. See the operator's privacy policy (8x8 for
meet.jit.si, or your own for a self-hosted deployment).
Data retention & deletion
- Ephemeral match sessions and their signaling data are deleted on hang-up.
- Your on-device chat transcripts can be cleared by removing the extension's site data or uninstalling it.
- To delete your account and associated directory, contact, and chat data, contact your administrator or
openjargon@gmail.com.
Children
FireChat is a workplace tool intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13.
